Solution 1
(i) Hot deserts and cool deserts are the two varieties of deserts found in the world.
(ii) The Sahara desert is located in Africa.
(iii) The altitude in Ladakh ranges from 3000 meters to 8000 meters. The climate is extremely cold and dry and since the air is thin, sunburns are a common occurrence. The day temperature during the summers is just above 0˚ C and the night temperature might go as low as -30˚ C. Winters are extremely cold with temperature remaining less than -40˚ C throughout. Ladakh is situated in the rain shadow of the Himalayas and hence receives as little as 10 cm rainfall per year. The region also experiences freezing winds and burning hot sunlight.
(iv) The natural beauty of Ladakh is best represented in the meadows and the glaciers. There are many Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh and the local people also participate in various festivals and ceremonies. These are the things that attract tourists to Ladakh.
(v) The people of the Sahara desert wear loose, long, heavy robes and head wrappings.
(vi) Poplars, willows and fruit varieties like apricots, apples and walnuts grow in Ladakh.

(i) Deserts are characterised by extreme climatic conditions. They receive very low rainfall per year and temperature is either very high or very low. As a result, there is scanty vegetation in the desserts.
(ii) The inhabitants of the Sahara wear long, loose, heavy robes and head wrappings. Such clothes allow air to circulate over their bodies, prevent the evaporation of sweat and help the body in retaining its fluids. Apart from keeping the body temperature relatively low, the robes also protect the individual from the sun, hot winds and dust storms which are a common occurrence in Sahara desert.
